If you’re thinking about closing up the cottage anytime soon, the OPP have some tips for you when it comes to keeping thieves away. Statistics show that the week following Thanksgiving to the weeks leading up to Victoria Day is when cottages  especially the ones that aren’t in use are most likely to be broken into. To discourage a would-be theif, police say empty the place of all food and booze. Have neighbors keep an eye out for you and consider investing in an alarm system. Try to trim your trees and shrubs so that doors and windows are visible from the roadway. Some other ideas include removing all your valuables from the cottage and consider installing motion sensors around the perimeter of the building. -AC
