More than 44-thousand dollars was raised this past weekend which will go towards fighting homelessness in the area.

The goal of the event…called the Coldest Night of the Year…is to raise awareness and show solidarity for those living on the street.

The nation-wide walk-a-thon was hoping to raise 50-thousand dollars but say donations will continue coming in until the end of March.

Close to 200 people participated…some walking…others jogging through the 2,5 and 10 kilometre route.

Money raised will be going towards the Renfrew County Safe Shelter for Youth, which is a program of Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County.
