Did you hear a long, loud roar Thursday night just before 8:30?
That was the sound of proud Ottawa Valley folks cheering as Eganville’s Melissa Bishop qualified for the finals of the women’s 800 metres at the Rio Olympics.
Bishop coasted to the finish line in her semifinal heat, finishing second, and earning a berth in Saturday’s final.
That race will take place just after 8 p.m. and if you’re in the Eganville area, drop by the gym at Eganville & District Public School for a viewing party and catch the action on the big screen. Organizers are expecting a huge crowd of some of Bishop’s biggest supporters.
Doors open at 7:30 and our own Christa Pare will be there and we’ll have all the action right here on Valley Heritage Radio.
Eganville’s Melissa Bishop continues her quest for Olympic gold tonight, as she hits the track in Rio for the semifinals of the women’s 800 metres.
The 28-year-old qualified for the semis after winning her preliminary heat, finishing with the fastest time overall.
Bishop will run in tonight’s second heat of three, and will need to finish in the top two to advance to Saturday night’s final, or have one of the two fastest times of those who don’t finish either first or second in their heats.
Tonight’s race will begin around 8:15, and can be seen on CBC Television, or streamed live on the CBC’s website.
