The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP want to remind people to be very suspicious of anyone calling claiming to represent a bank or credit card company.

An Admaston Bromley resident was recently contacted by a male caller claiming to represent a bank, and was told to log on to a website to view a credit card transaction so the bank could refund funds.

When the person logged on, the caller took remote access of the computer and began to transfer a large sum of money.

The person told the fraudster they were calling the police and unplugged the computer to halt the transaction.  The male caller called them stupid and hung up the phone.

Report frauds to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online here.
