The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is asking people buying imported leafy vegetables to be on the lookout for beetles in some pre-packaged salads.

No one has become ill because of consuming the salads, but the Agency is asking that people be aware of the possible presence of Iron Cross Blister Beetles.

The beetle is very distinctively coloured, with a bright red head, and bright yellow markings on its wings, separated by a black cross.

Consumers are advised to wash and visually inspect their leafy vegetables thoroughly.

If you do find this beetle, it should be treated with caution as it may release an irritating chemical that can cause blisters at the point of contact.

The beetle should be removed without touching or crushing it.

If found, please advise your local CFIA office.
