The man facing first-degree murder charges in the deaths of three women in the Upper Ottawa Valley was back in Pembroke court for a brief appearance late last week.
The court heard that Basil Borutski has yet to find a lawyer despite being ordered to do so. The Pembroke Observer is reporting the 58-year-old will be back in court March 10th and remains in custody at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.
He is still awaiting arraignment in the case and the court has ordered a five-day assessment of Borutski to see if he is fit to stand trial.
He is charged with the September 22nd murders of 36-year-old Anastasia Kuzyk, 48-year-old Nathalie Warmerdam, and 66-year-old Carol Culleton.
