A multi-vehicle collision on Daniel Street in Arnprior has claimed one life, and another person is in serious condition, following the crash just before 4 o’clock on Monday afternoon.

Sheila Welsh, 65, of Arnprior was killed when the vehicle she was driving was struck by a truck driven by a 20-year-old Eganville man.

The Special Investigations Unit says the truck was stolen earlier in the afternoon in Eganville, and the driver made his way to Arnprior via Highway 60, and then Highway 17. At some point, OPP officers began to follow the truck, which raced into Arnprior and collided with two cars in the area of Daniel Street South and Edey Street, near the entrance to the Arnprior Fairgrounds.

The SIU has not mentioned anything about a police chase.

The man was arrested at the scene and remains in hospital.

There was no one in the third vehicle that was involved.

The Special Investigations Unit was called in and they believe there were a number of witnesses. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The Unit is also asking anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

Five investigators, two forensic investigators, and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to this incident.
