The Women’s World Hockey Championships open in less than a week in British Columbia and there will be an Ottawa Valley connection on Team Canada.

Arnprior native Doug Derraugh will serve as an assistant coach with the Canadian squad. The 47-year-old was the Team Canada head coach for the 2014-15 season guiding the club to a silver medal at last year’s World’s.

Derraugh is also head coach of the Cornell women’s hockey team and holds the record as winningest coach in team history.

The 2016 world championships begin March 28th with Canada taking on the rival Americans to open the tournament.
