
A Mississippi Mills councillor is dead, and his daughter seriously injured, following a shooting at the politician’s home in Almonte early Thursday morning.
Police found the body of Bernard Cameron shortly after 7:30 a.m. while two people, including his daughter, were found in life-threatening condition.
Sarah Cameron, 28, remains in hospital in stable condition.
Police confirmed Thursday evening the 33-year-old man who was found at the scene, has died as a result of the injuries. He is also the alleged gunman.
Police are releasing few details at this point in time.
Mississippi Mills Mayor Shaun McLaughlin said Councillor Cameron has been a popular figure in Almonte for decades and, as a former high school teacher, he was known to generations of students, and will be sorely missed.
A vigil was held in his memory Thursday night at Almonte Old Town Hall.
