With all the snow in recent days, the town of Arnprior is seeing a real bite in this years snow removal budget – Although the final tally isn’t known yet, its been all hands on deck as municipal crews have been working as much as they’re allowed to legally and every contractor that they have has been helping out. Officials say there’s just been too much snow that falls at one time citing the last dumping which hit us Tuesday evening as the area saw about 30cms+ fall within 7 hours. The mayor says that if we get another winter like this next year reserve funds will absolutely be needed.

Another chain store in Renfrew has decided to close its doors. The Source located in the strip mall at 648 O’Brien road closed permanently on February the 11th leaving several employees out of work. This is the second store that has thrown in the towel at the Rio Can strip mall as Urban Planet shut its doors on January 27th. The mall won’t be a ghost town as Mark’s Work Wearhouse will be moving in…in about 4-or-5 months time. Out of the 8 units only four stores remain…those being Renfrew Nails and Spa, Easy home, Pet Value and Northern Reflections.

There will be a special blood donor clinic on Tuesday – February 19th at the Germania club – 15 Bennett Street in Pembroke –Blood donors in Renfrew County are invited to donate blood in honour of local leukemia survivor Aspyn Carroll – in September or 2017, Aspyn was diagnosed with leukemia and her mother said that blood donations have saved her life and continues to save other patient lives every day.  If you would like to roll up your sleeve and make a donation – appointments are appreciated buy drop ins are accepted.  To Book an appointment you can visit triple w dot blood dot ca.

The town of Renfrew wants to host the 2021 International Plowing match. The “major international event” would take place at Ma-Te-Way Park and adjacent farmland. The joint bid would see the town partner with the County of Renfrew and Admaston/Bromley. Experts say if they do land the plowing match it could generate about 30 million dollars in economic benefits for the area. When Renfrew County hosted the IPM near Pembroke in 1994, it attracted close to 100,000 visitors and generated $500,000 in proceeds that were invested in the county’s 911 system.

And in Sports….

In Junior Boys Basketball semi-final action, it was RCI 46 Bishop Smith 34.  Jack Stewart led the way with 22 points.  The Raiders will now host the league final Tuesday at 3:30 in RCI’s Grant Gym. 

In CCHL action – two games this weekend, Smiths falls is at Carelton place on Sunday at 3pm and Rockland visits Pembroke for a 7pm start. In CCHL2 action this weekend tonight Brockville takes on Arnprior at the Nick Smith Centre at 7:30pm, and Richmond is at Renfrew at Mateway at 8pm.  Saturdays games include Renfrew at Whitewater and Arnprior at Char-Lan – for all the times and for a complete schedule you can visit triple w dot the cchl2 dot ca.
